The September issue of Architecture New Zealand has just been released, and I’m grateful for the opportunity to contribute an article on how Aotearoa is tracking on its decarbonisation journey.

For those who know me, you’ll know I genuinely love what I do. I’m passionate about the work we’re pushing forward at Capana Group and about the mission we share as an industry. This article gave me the space to put into words the thoughts that have been building, and at times bellowing, in my head over the past couple of years.

What made it meaningful was being able to draw on experiences from both New Zealand and Australia. That perspective allowed me not only to compare but also to encourage. Because the truth is, climate change is not just a New Zealand issue. It is not just an Australian issue. It is a global challenge, and we are all in this together.

I try to approach these conversations reasonably, looking at them from different angles and weighing up what’s possible and what’s not, while still leaving room for the near impossible. There are usually many ways of solving the challenges we face, and I don’t pretend that my ideas are the only or even the best way forward. What matters most is that we keep talking and working together, because that’s far more valuable than staying silent.

Thank you to Architecture New Zealand for providing the platform to share these reflections. If you would like to read the full piece, you will find it in the freshly released September issue. I would love to hear your thoughts, so if anything resonates with you or if you would like to talk further, please reach out.
